Greynet Research Study 2006
Last month, FaceTime and market research firm, NewDiligence, surveyed over 1,100 end users and IT managers to determine the impact that greynet applications have on enterprises.
Results of the survey show that more users are adopting greynet applications while, at the same time, little progress has been made toward combating greynet-related attacks.
81% of IT managers reported greynet-related attacks within the last six months, about the same rate as one year ago.
The most common attacks continue to be from spyware and adware (75%), viruses and worms (57%), other malware (22%), and rootkits and keyloggers (22%).
Additional key findings include:
Four in ten employees believe they have the right to install greynet applications on their work computer,
and more than half the end users are at work locations where policies governing IM and P2P usage are disregarded (53%)

70% of end users have sent personal IMs from work, and 1 in 4 employees admitted to sending information about company plans, finances or password/login credentials via IM

The number of work locations where eight or more greynet applications are in use has doubled over the past 12 months,
growing from 20% of locations one year ago to 41% today

With the explosion in the popularity of the Skype peer-to-peer voice over IP program, IT managers are finding themselves faced with some
familiar questions: Should they curb Skype's use in the company? Should they support the application, even when it comes in through the
backdoor? Should they embrace the solution, deploying it from the get-go? Read more in eWeeks'

Watch Out, Kids - It's the Myspace Viewer!
What has FaceTime Security Labs' Christopher Boyd (aka Paperghost) uncovered lately? How about a particularly nasty scam going around the Myspace network, called the Myspace Adult Content Viewer.
If you visited a fake profile, you'd see this gigantic popup appear telling you to download "something" to be able to view the page. Of course, anyone doing so would find their PC hit with various Adware and Spyware bundles.
