FaceTime Teams with Skype
Building on Skype's business offerings, FaceTime has unveiled the first gateway-to-endpoint management and control of Skype.
FaceTime's managed Skype solution provides IT and network administrators with the ability to manage the use of Skype on their network with granular controls to choose which elements of Skype software its employees can use. For example, a company may allow voice services but not file sharing or supernode capabilities.

Phishing for Trouble
Remember the days when virus attacks were your biggest nightmare? Phishing is now an even bigger problem. A recent report noted that one in 93 emails is involved in a phishing attack, compared with one in about 119 emails involved in a virus attack.

Sony Settles with FTC Over CD Rootkit
Not even big record companies can get away with installing malware. Sony BMG agreed to settle charges brought by the U.S. FTC that the company broke federal regulations by including an aggressive software program on dozens of music titles. This software monitored a user's PC and opened up security vulnerabilities. Security researchers caught on to the hidden digital rights management code and were not pleased with their findings.

Criminals 'May Overwhelm the Web'
Thanks to the Internet, many criminals have long left shootouts and bank robberies to pursue high-tech crimes. Criminals controlling millions of personal computers are threatening the Internet's future, experts have warned. Up to a quarter of computers on the net may be used by cyber criminals in so-called botnets, said Vint Cerf, one of the fathers of the Internet.

IM Watch: Sametime Picks Up Real-Time Video
Instant messaging software, once just expected to perform simple real-time text messaging, is now expected to include tools for multimedia interaction.
This January, Lotus Sametime 7.5 integrated tools from video collaboration platform provider Avistar Communications.
The product is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2007.

Substitute Teacher Faces Jail Time Over Spyware
Julie Amero, a 40-year old substitute teacher from Connecticut, is facing jail time over allegedly exposing her students to pornography on the classroom computer. According to the defense, the porn pop ups were caused by spyware installed on the computer.
But the jury sided with the prosecution and convicted her of four counts of endangering a child, a crime that brings a punishment of up to 10 years in jail per count.
