  GOOGLE TAKES AIM AT CHAT RIVALS
Announced a few weeks ago, Google has integrated its popular Gmail with its new IM feature, allowing users to chat and send e-mails from the same web browser window. Analysts suggested the move is designed to steer Gmail users towards the company's six-month-old Google Talk service. However, according to Neilson/Netratings, Google lags well behind other IM services with only 866 thousand subscribers compared to AOL's 53 million. (Full story...)

Andy Burton, founder of Centennial, said, "The good news is that if 13% of people believe they have blocks in place then that's a lot higher than the industry feel," though he added that those blocks may owe little to security fears but rather concerns about productivity.   ADWARE FIRM ADMITS ERROR, APOLOGIZES
Controversial adware marketer 180solutions admitted that it was unable to identify the rouge affiliate that was installing its Zango software illegally. Smith also blamed the breakdown on his company's detection and reporting mechanisms, not the S3 technology. "Our software was certainly hacked, [buy] no amount of software development will ever make any software completely bulletproof," said Smith. (Full story...)
