Identified: September 18, 2006
AKA: Win32.Image23, Pipeline Worm Image23
Threat Level: High
This is a botnet worm that affects AIM. Once infected, a running process called
csts.exe will start. This file will make constant calls to suspicious websites that will
slow down internet use. This file also creates a service called RPC Debug Control
that starts with Windows. There is also evidence of another service called "Print
Spooler Service" being related to this botnet worm. (More...)
W32.heartworm.a
Identified: September 22, 2006
Threat Level: Medium
This is a new IM-borne threat targeting MSN Messenger users with a link that opens up a Web site that leads users to click on a "virtual card waiting for you." Users who click on this link see an image of a heart with a poem in Portuguese. The threat, known as W32.heartworm.a, installs files to steal a user's banking and personal data.

Unified Communications Does What?
Unified communications (UC) is so fragmented that it's currently difficult to pinpoint its market size, leaders and level of adoption. It's a combination of concrete collaboration products -- including email, voicemail, presence, video and audio -- and Web conferencing, but all by itself it's an intangible thing. It's textbook vaporware.

Torvalds Talks Like a Pirate
Linux creator Linus Torvalds recently signaled his enjoyment of the annual "Talk Like a Pirate Day" festivities, using the nautical lexicon to launch an update to the kernel at the heart of the open-source operating system.
"Ahoy! She's good to go, hoist anchor!" wrote Torvalds in a public announcement of version 2.6.18 of the Linux kernel. "Here's some real booty for all you landlubbers," he continued.
